OUR MEDICAL DOCTORS – THE SPECIALIST RADIOLOGISTS

The reporting doctors are the respected medical specialists, Dr Mitch Kaplan and Dr Keren Spiegal-Moyal, who have trained at leading medical institutions internationally, including the USA and other countries.

They are assisted by a further two expert specialist radiologists, Dr Gavin Durra and Dr Carol Makomba.

All are accredited members of the Radiological Society of South Africa (RSSA), The Health professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the Board of Health Funders (BHF).

 

Dr Mitch Kaplan is a medical director and the main reporting doctor in Scan For Life.

He qualified as a Gold Medalist specialist Radiologist.

Dr Kaplan initially completed his medical degree in 1997 and completed his specialty in 1994.

He entered private practice in 1995, where is remains currently.

He has been a senior partner and is the medical director in five private-hospital based radiology practices.

Dr Kaplan has been performing screening scan services since 2003, when he introduced these scans into the South African market.

He has been published and cited in medical journals and has been a speaker at local and international congresses, including the International Congress of Radiology (ISR).

Dr Kaplan has been the First place recipient of the international Carlo Romanini Award for endometriosis diagnosis, and has been a recognised instructor for the training of specialists in Coronary CT Angiography and CT Colonography.

Dr Kaplan is a member of the international Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT), and is a Cardiovascular Imaging panel member for the Radiological Society of South Africa (RSSA).

 

Dr Keren Spiegal-Moyal qualified as a medical doctor from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in 1997, winning the Smith and Nephew award for orthopaedics. She completed her internship in 1998, and then her medical officer time in the fields of orthopaedics and intensive care. She continued with a 6 month senior house office post in Paediatrics. She qualified as a specialist radiologist in 2004. Between 2004 and 2009 she continued as a consultant radiologist and acting clinical head of a hospital radiology department. Keren has been in her current position as specialist radiologist at Rosebank Radiology since  2009.

She has a special interest in breast imaging and intervention for diagnosis of breast disease, musculoskeletal ultrasound and MRI imaging as well as virtual colonoscopy imaging.

She has completed a number of related courses including Multimodality Detection and Diagnosis of Breast Disease by Laszlo Tabar and Advanced Orthopaedic and Joint MRI By Pomeranz Proscan imaging in Chicago USA.

Keren has a number of publications to her name in the South African Journal of Radiology and in the Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Oncology, Australia and new Zealand.

Dr Spiegel-Moyal is an experienced expert in CT Colonography (Virtual Colonoscopy), MRI of the Prostate (Multi-parametric) and Breast MRI.
